Why is Dachstein West a good ski resort for school groups?

Dachstein West is not one of Austria's best known resorts which means it has some of the best package prices on offer and some amazing un-spoilt scenery. The ski village of Gosau is charming and friendly and the surrounding slopes are wooded with relatively flat trails. The area is very popular during the summer for its stunning scenery and winter is no different.

If you are sensible you will take every opportunity to spend some time sitting at a piste side ski hut, from where you can fill your boots with traditional mountain food, typical of the region.

Getting to Dachstein West
Salzburg is 45 mins transfer, Graz is 1 hour 30 minutes and Munich is the transfer times of 2.5 hours.

For beginners
The resort of Dachstein West is great for school groups, with wide and open nursery areas and gentle beginner runs once your students build up their confidence. All the best places for beginners to hang out are very central, and the runs reached by simple tow lifts. There is plenty to go at, including a very good snow park, but as a bonus, if you find you exhaust the skiing opportunities during your school ski trip, your ski pass gives you access to another five nearby resorts.

Dachstein West accommodation
It has a few hostels available for school group bookings and the option to rent out your own private chalet.

The best bits about Dachstein West

  • Great skiing for beginners and intermediates
  • Not a huge tourist area meaning that you have more of the slopes to enjoy with your students.
  • Great apres ski entertainment for under 18s
