Grandvalira was established in 2003 and was the combination of two of the oldest ski resorts on the Pyrenees. It is now one of the largest ski resorts in Europe and has more than 210kms of runs. The resort is split into six distinct areas, and while you'll be more than welcome in any of them, Grandvalira Canillo is purpose built for beginners, with great facilities and usually far less crowded. Your group are likely to spend plenty of time in the resort's snow gardens - the ideal place to gain confidence for first time skiers.
Getting to Grandvalira
Grandvalira can be easily reached from a number of different airports, the closest being the Lleida-Alguaire International Airport (150 km) in Spain closely followed by Carcassonne, Toulouse and Barcelona Airports.
For beginners
Grandvalira is a great for beginners as it has one of the largest ski schools in the world with over 400 ski instructors more than sixty green and blue runs. They have a ski pass aimed squarely at beginners, which gives access to all the areas a beginner would want to get to, and the price is great value. There are a handful of snowparks for snowboarding, including a floodlit park for those who have not had their fill of snow during the daylight hours.
Snow is usually in good supply, with the resort stretching from a relatively high 1,700m to well above the snowline. Investment in snow cannon means the resort can guarantee that well over half the resort is certain to be available even if the weather was unseasonable.
Grandvalira accommodation
Grandvalira has a very wide range of accomodation for all bugets and can include anything from hotels with doorstep skiing, to the more secluded chalets.
