Kaprun is a well known ski resort in the Salzburg province of Austria. You will often see the resort referred to as Kaprun Zell am See, the two being neighbouring resorts. The area is also well known for its association with the huge Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which provides year round skiing.
The resort provides excellent skiing for all abilities with most school groups likely to be spending much of their time on the Maiskogel, reached by cable car. The ski tuition provided will help you find your feet, and after that there are some really good blue runs to allow you to start exploring the mountain. If you are an intermediate ability group, head for the Kitzsteinhorn glacier where the facilities are superb.
Getting to Kaprun
Salzburg (or at a push Munich) Airport is your obvious route to Kaprun. Coach transfers from the airport takes between an hour and a half and a little over two hours, depending upon time of day and traffic.
For beginners
In the same breath as Kaprun and beginners you are likely to hear people talking about the Maiskogel. This is basically a family friendly mountain, offering some great skiing for beginners and intermediate skiers. If the weather at resort level isn't promising in terms of snowfall, you can head for the glacier. It's is more of a trek but, at least you will be able to ski. The resort itself is also big enough to offer plenty of entertainment choice for students.
Kaprun accommodation
Kaprun is a modern resort yet has managed to retain plenty of character in its architecture. Your school group will find plenty of suitable accommodation, with guesthouses, hotels and some of the larger chalets providing the bulk of the school tour operator accommodation.
