The Ziller Valley is a popular Austrian destination for school groups thanks to it's huge choice and superb ski resorts. Kaltenbach, Hochzillertal, Mayrhofen, Zillertal, Fügen and the Hintertux Glacier join together to form a ski area in the Tyrolean Alps that is hard to beat for skiers of all abilities.
The area's very traditional mountain architecture is a real draw for the region and many of the hotels and guesthouses are sympathetic to the local style. And don't even get us started on the incredible food on offer in this part of Austria!
Getting to the Ziller Valley
Innsbruck is less than an hour away from some parts of the Ziller area, so transfers from the airport are about as good as you are going to find in Austria. If you want to travel by coach, you are looking at around 13 hours once you get through the Eurotunnel.
For beginners
Doorstep or ski-in ski-out locations mean schools have quick and easy access to some of the best skiing in Austria. The place is far too big and varied to talk about individual ski runs, but suffice to say that in every resort there is plenty of provision for complete beginners and at improving children.
Ski passes cover you for many of the resorts in the Ziller Valley, so there is plenty of skiing to be had, including snow parks if your group wishes to try some snowboarding. If snowfall is a problem, you also have easy glacier skiing at altitude so you won't be hotel bound unless the weather gets too severe.
Ziller Valley accommodation
Traditional family run guest houses are the usual accommodation provided to school groups. There are lots of options but many are centrally located and sometimes offer sole occupancy. Check with the ski operator to decide what type of accommodation best suits your school group. If you can get ski in ski out digs, your school group will love you forever!
