The Folgaria ski area in the Trentino Dolomites includes more than 50 slopes around the Alpe Cimbra with lots of skiing for all abilities. Although the resort is not high enough to be snowsure, the artificial snowmaking capabilities can give snow cover to well over half of the 100 plus kilometers of runs, from December through until April so your school group will not suffer the disappointment of no snow.
We love Folgaria because there is nothing artificial about it. The atmosphere is very traditional and a stay in resort gives you the feeling of being a guest in someone else's village, rather than some other big resorts where you feel everyone you meet is a visitor.
Getting to Folgaria
The shortest flight to Folgaria ski resort is into Verona airport, with Milan a shorter flight but an hour longer transfer. For school ski groups there are a few other options that may work out cheaper, if not faster.
For beginners
For school ski trips, the resort of Folgaria is a perfect Italian destination. Once you graduate from the easy nursery areas, most of the routes you will ski wind their way through heavily wooded, tree-lined pistes. The pistes themselves are wide, undulating, beautifully groomed, and the snow condition is excellent thanks to a combination of good snow and good snowmaking facilities.
One of the great things about Folgaria is that for an improving beginner, the slopes that are marked intermediate are still nice and wide, giving generous room for error.
Folgaria accommodation
There isn't much ski-in ski-out accommodation in Folgaria, but most of the places your school groups are likely to be staying are only a short walk from the lift system.
