Surely one of the most famous resorts in the French Alps, Alpe d'Huez is a mecca for skiers of all abilities. While experts are well catered for with some hair raising black runs, you will also find plenty of superb skiing for your school group, whether they are complete beginners or confident on the blue runs.
The heart of the resort isn't exactly picture postcard (more function than form, with concrete the building material of choice), but the accommodation itself is fine and you are likely to spend most of your time skiing, or sunning yourselves on the south facing slopes.
Getting to Alpe d'Huez
Alpe d'Huez is accessible by flights coming into Geneva Airport, Lyon Airport, Chambery Airport and Grenoble Airport. Transfer to the resort by coach in anything between one and two and a half hours.
For beginners
Some great nursery areas - some of the largest in Europe, which get pride of place due to the geography/geology of the resort. Beginners are not usually so well provided for! There are also plenty of green runs just above the resort, plus a snowboard park if any of your school group wish to try some snowboarding. In the resort itself there are also plenty of shops, a couple of cinemas, a swimming pool and climbing wall.
Alpe d'Huez group accommodation
Alpe d'Huez has its fair share of concrete apartment type accommodation. The great thing about this for school ski holidays is the price! Many of the prettier resorts have seen prices increase quite dramatically, but in Alpe d'Huez, prices have remained more reasonable. Ski apartments, hotels, club hotels and even chalets
