Jasper Marmot Basin is a school friendly ski resort in the Alberta province of Canada. Marmot Basin is the mountain, and Jasper is the nearest town - just a few kilometers north on Icefields Parkway. At Marmot Basin, the resort staff are really friendly, professional and efficient, making equipment hire a doddle and ski tuition an enjoyable experience. There is a good variety of skiing for pupils of all abilities, so whether you are taking a full school group of first time skiers, or your students have all skied before, the 86 marked runs offer enough variety and difficulty to cater for you.
Schools who traditionally enjoy their annual ski trip to Europe will be impressed by the variety of skiing available at this Canadian resort. The altitude is similar to what you will find in the Alps, and the whole setup is very professional. If you are tempted to try a Canadian trip, we would certainly recommend you take a closer look at Marmot Basin.
Getting to Marmot Basin
Quite a bit further north than Banff, Marmot Basin is served by either Calgary or Edmonton. Flights take around 8 hours from the UK, and the transfer takes another few hours to cover the couple of hundred miles - although on Canadian scales, this is a short hop! The distance from major cities also means less busy even on weekends, as some ski resorts that have a city on their doorstep can suffer from crowding.
For beginners
All seven lifts on Marmot Basin have a beginner friendly green run from the top of them, and there is a magic carpet serving a dedicated beginner ski/snowboard area. One of the things schools really like about a trip to Marmot, is the way the ski tuition covers far more than just how to stay upright on planks. Professional ski instructors teach your pupils all about mountain safety, from avalanches to basic survival.
Marmot Basin accommodation
School groups will stay at nearby town of Jasper. Your hotel will be within walking distance of lots of school friendly evening apres ski activities such as ice skating, bowling, and most of the good size hotels have their own indoor swimming - heated of course!
