We have chosen the ski resort of Saas Fee to appear among our recommendations for the perfect place to take a school ski trip because it is boasts an ideal mix of wonderful ski opportunities for beginners through to experts, and accommodation options to suit every budget. Some ski resorts are better for a particular type of group, but Saas Fee would make our list of recommendations no matter what type of Swiss skiing holiday your school group are looking for!
The village does not allow cars, and is a traditional mix of Alpine style wooden buildings, containing shops, hotels and restaurants. If you wanted to paint a picture of a ski resort village, Saas Fee would be your canvas. The resort is snowsure with regular snow all winter and you can even ski in summer thanks to the glacier.
Getting to Saas Fee
Geneva airport is the closest in terms of transfer times, though you are still looking at around two and a half hours. Other airport only slightly further out include Zurich, Basel and Milan. So there are plenty of travel options available for your school.
For beginners
The drag lifts and green nursery slopes at Stafelwald are probably the best place to start if your school group has not been skiing before. The atmosphere here is nice and relaxed - you aren't in the way of any of the fast runs and you can ski over to the many cafes and restaurants that surround the nursery area. If we were designing a ski resort especially for school groups, this part of Saas Fee would be our template.
Blue runs are especially good at Saas Fee, with plenty of variety to hold your interest as you pick up some speed from Felskinn back down towards the village. Make sure you take some time to try the toboggan run at Hannig. If you think sledging down the hill at your local park is fun, this 5km long ride is going to leave you with the biggest grin.
Saas Fee accommodation
Saas Fee has grown quite considerably, but thankfully managed to hold on to its traditional charm. There are a wide range of budget conscious accommodation options for school groups to choose from, most of which will be within walking distance of the village centre and base area.
